Batters best yet at cricket festival
 |
| The Mayor of Swanley Town Council, Councillor Michael Mahy, with the winning pupils from Hextable Junior School |
BUDDING cricket stars batted and bowled their way through a day of matches at a schools tournament.
Teams from six primary schools in and around Swanley took part in the town's annual schools cricket festival at Swanley Recreation Ground, in St Mary's Road.
Tony Rose from the Kent Cricket Board, which gets government and council funding to provide cricket events for young people, organised the festival.
He said: "It was a perfect festival of cricket played in a great spirit by all the teams.
"It was the best Swanley festival I have had the pleasure of organising."
The six teams all played each other in a mini-league and Hextable Junior School, in Rowhill Road, finished first.
Its team scored one more run overall than second-placed St Mary's CofE School, St Mary's Road, Swanley.
