Thamesmead is number one for bank card fraud
BANK card fraud in Thamesmead and Plumstead is the worst in the country, according to new research.
Research by fraud specialist firm, The 3rd Man, in partnership with directory company, 192business.com, revealed that Thamesmead and Plumstead had the highest rate of fraudulent transactions in the UK.
Based on an analysis of over 30 million card transactions, from January to June, the findings showed that 2,203 out of 15,970 transactions made in Thamesmead were fraudulent - the worst in the UK.
Plumstead was the UK's second worst area with 2,121 out of 34,642 transactions found to be fraudulent.
And Catford, in Lewisham, was the 4th worst area in south east London with 557 fraudulent transactions made out of 25,388.
Director at The 3rd Man Andrew Goodwill claims that areas worst affected by fraud are those with high levels of social deprivation and identified the internet as one of the main sources used by fraudsters.
Mr Goodwill said: "Bank card fraud tends to happen in areas populated by a particular social group, namely immigrants, eastern Europeans, and the unemployed.
"Often people access your personal details from websites with poor security and then sell that information to others on special online forums.
"So, be careful when you're buying online because if it looks too good to be true, it probably is."
Mr Goodwill argued that the police and the Government need to do more to tackle the problem.
He said: "The only way to tackle this problem is through better policing to specifically target the criminals and this has proved to be successful in other towns such as Liverpool and Kilmarnock.
"There needs to be more investment from the Government into police resources to tackle fraud which often helps fund other things such as drug trafficking and terrorism."

Credit Card Fraud
Mortgage evasion
Car Tax Evasion
Car Insurance Evasion
Shop Lifting
Kniving
Just spend a little time in Morrisons car park Thamesmead.
See Fake invalid parking permits. As fit and able people park the cars so they don't get scratched due to the wider pays. Then see the same people give in milk tokens and try several credit cards before one works. Suspect recently stolen. They even have the cheek to ring some one for the codes. Then leave to get back in the nice Mercedes or 4x4.SCUM.

There's a huge amount of fraud on housing in West Thamesmead too, or should I say there was. Apparently loads of Nigerians have been chucked out due to it in that area.
Anyway I see this artical has changed name, but seems all DA and SE postcodes in and around each other all suffer quite badly from this card fraud.

There is still a load of mortgage fraud here and prices are falling through the floor. It could be a nice place to live - but it hell. Like the decription of the Morrissons car park above, exactly the same thing goes on in the Tesco Express car park opposite Belmarsh.

I work in a Bank the stories I could tell about fraudsters, and yes a lot do come from Thamesmead, but Bank workers lips are sealed, 'customer confidentialy' just keep your eye on your Tax Credits.

They are so confident about what they are doing. They do it straight in your face. laughing as they do it. It encorages them to tell the freinds to come here and live a life above and beyond the law. Its a national disgrace this is allowed to go on. But as the Bank Employee says you have to keep lips sealed and pretend nothink is happening. When it is. But its a taboo subject that must never be raised. As the people who are responsible for this chaos wont admit it. The fact is it's there fault.Sort out Thamesmead and give the decent people who still live there the lives back.Thats why your House prices are LOW and your Insurances High. Why should you have to pay for people I am sure never contributed a penny to the very people that keep them.
